Project Title: Personal Cyber Security Resources for Older Adults

Project Description: In this group project we used Springshare to create a libguide targeted at educating older adults about personal cyber security practices. The focus of the libguide was to create a user-friendly libguide targeted at older adults explaining and providing tools about different aspects of cyber security including: an introduction, how to navigate the internet safely, password managers, phishing, and a glossary.

Methods: This project required first defining our target audience and then determining from there what key components to include in our libguide. After defining each section of the libguide we then focused on conducting research for resources, literature, and tools that fit our target audience’s level of understanding. I applied my understanding of reference type and resource access to determine which were the most appropriate resources to share on the libguide.

My Role: I worked with one other group member. The libguide was divided by subject area; my focus was on conducting research and writing the libguide pages on Password Management, Phishing, and a portion of the glossary. I also contributed to the formatting and CSS coding for the final layout.

Learning Outcome Achieved: User-Centered Focus

Rationale: This project demonstrates my ability to understand a specified target audience and anticipate the users perspective and information needs. User considerations were the determining factor in which types or resources and tools were included in the libguide. We were sensitive in avoiding overly complex and technically heavy explanations and applications. As a group, we made sure that alternative text was present for all forms of media and made sure the colors we used were WebAIM contrast approved. Combined, these considerations made sure our libguide was user-centered focused.
